Drownings and Near Drownings on the Rise
The recent warm spring weather has parents in Clark County opening windows and doors in an effort to enjoy the fresh air. Unfortunately, in the past few weeks, several children have wandered from their houses and into pools with dire consequences.
At Safe Kids Clark County, we want to see these incidents disappear altogether to save children's lives and families' heartache. Our drowning prevention committee has been hard at work trying to get the word out about the ABC&D's of drowning prevention.
A: Adult supervision of children around water at all times
B: Barriers for pools, such as a 5' tall fence. If you can afford to buy a pool, how can you not afford to buy a fence that may save your child's life?
C: Classes to help your child learn to swim and CPR classes for you
D: Devices such as personal flotation devices and telephones right next to the pool in case you must call for help
